Dealing with children
and babies
-
Teach kids to climb
into car, bath, onto toilet, lap etc
-
Make cuddle time on
your lap in seated position rather than standing
-
A good baby sling may
help you carry your baby around the house whilst using crutches, or
use a pram or a bassinet on wheels
-
Learn to settle your
baby in their bassinet/cot rather than having to walk them around (eg
patting)
-
Bath your baby on the
kitchen bench (get someone else to fill it), in the sink, or at the
table seated. A rubber hose extension with shower head may be
helpful. It may be also easier to get someone to hand the baby to
you to wash in the shower if standing is OK. Or just “top and tail”
them when changing their nappy
-
Consider using a nanny
service – contact the Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305 for
information about services that you might be eligible for (Australia
only)
-
If you are wheelchair
bound, get someone to take you out for a walk with the baby in a
sling on your chest
-
Keep your nappy change
equipment with you (eg in lounge room) with a thermos of warm water
for moistening wipes
